About this site
This site provides a forum for people with an interest in Afrikaans television and television in South Africa to read about trendsetting Afrikaans dramas and soap operas on South African television, voice their opinions about these programmes and partake in fun surveys about the impact of these programmes on our lives and people’s perceptions about Afrikaans speaking communities in South Africa. If you are a soap opera fan, a fan of Afrikaans dramas, someone concerned about the quality and amount of Afrikaans programmes on the public broadcaster or someone who is curious about how South African television works, this site is for you.
If you are a person with an interest in South African television who also likes Afrikaans programmes, you should log in to our “Public site”. Here you’ll find information about Afrikaans programmes, opinions about programme content, information about South African Broadcasting Policy and you’ll also find out how Afrikaans programmes rate in relation to their other-language counterparts. More so, you will be able to raise your opinion about your favourite Afrikaans soap opera or drama, the status of Afrikaans programming on South African television as well as contribute to blogs about selected Afrikaans programmes.
If you are an academic interested to find out why the Department of Afrikaans is hosting a website about Afrikaans television and how this site relates to our research about Afrikaans Television and Identity Formation, then you should log in to our “Academics site”.
